For more than a decade, Diego Fernando Izquierdo Ochoa has been exploring Guatemala —across volcanoes and highland trails, around remote lakes, through the jungle, and into communities far beyond the usual tourist routes.

A certified INGUAT guide, Diego learned his craft working with some of Guatemala’s leading international tour operators. But what truly shapes the way he travels today are the relationships he has built along the way—particularly throughout Quiché and the Cuchumatanes—and his deep interest in Maya history, culture and living traditions.

For Diego, a great journey isn’t about ticking places off a list. It’s about understanding where you are.

It’s about walking further, sharing a meal with a local family, listening to the stories behind a place, and experiencing Guatemala with curiosity and respect.
